Why are people so skeptical about psychic powers?
Granted there are some frauds.But there are some genuine psychics.Maybe the genuine psychics are reluctant to perform but then how is it that people aren’t open minded enough to try it for themselves and I don’t just mean a quick try.I mean a proper try and put effort into it then they experience it themselves.So it’s a bit of a difficult thing to say who is correct because the psychics don’t perform when asked but the skeptics aren’t willing to try it themselves either!

So I finally find someone who isn’t skeptical about this topic of psychic powers.I agree that at some point in life people wish they were psychic but I disagree that they don’t get anywhere.The reason this is they start to use their abilities but they don’t use it enough to the point where they hone the ability and since they’re just starting out they are usually skeptical and are most of the time thinking “is this going to work” whereas if you don’t doubt yourself it does work.After I watched that program with Uri Geller in me and my mates decided to give it a try and it worked because we had seen it works which eliminated the fact it was impossible.I don’t claim to be able to do it anymore but I still try because I want people to see this is possible. And those who said it is a trick, how do you explain the fact that the spoon was on top of the television when it was bent after the program finished.Surely that can’t be called a trick!

Because typically, people who claim to have them have been proved to be either deliberate frauds, or self-delusional.
For example, many people claim to be able to foretell the future because they have a dream that later comes true. They don’t account for the fact that since the average person has 700 to 1000 dreams every week, it’s common to have a dream, or even several dreams, that match up to subsequent events. It’s statistically inevitable.

In my opinion, I think it’s probably three things (1) psychic powers would be a really amazing ability to have, and (2) scientific evidence for psychic powers is extremely hard to come by. Generally speaking, the more amazing or extraordinary a claim is, the better your evidence needs to be before people will start believing it. And (3), there are charlatans like Sylvia Browne and John Edward and frauds like Uri Geller who, while fooling a number of people, certainly turn off a lot of people who catch on to them.
There has been major efforts made to research ostensible psychic powers and much has been published in the paranormal literature, with a bit published in the mainstream science literature. Believers in psychic powers point to a number of results which they believe supports the existence of psychic powers, while skeptical scientists have identified methodology and analysis issues which they say compromise the integrity of the results. And in general, the scientific community has not been impressed to date.
